1st XI Match Report - 7/5/22

Conner Karvaski offers his version of events from the 1st XI's loss at Alvechurch & Hopwood on Saturday.

Saturday saw the 1st XI travel to Alvechurch and Hopwood, it also brought us a new skipper for the day in Ryan Price. The toss gave us the same result, with us being put in to bat.

Price and Geoff Day walked out and, after hitting his first ball for 4, Price tried an ill-advised single to short cover.

Day soon fell bringing Jamie MacKenzie, playing his first game of the season, and Pete Hawk together. Hawk put down the anchor once again and MacKenzie did what he does best, hitting the bowler into the houses!

We were 110-2 off 17 overs with MacKenzie hitting a rapid 50 however this soon became 125-5 at drinks. MacKenzie fell for a well-made 70. Stu Hawk and P Hawk then aimed to get us batting deep in the innings. S Hawk departed to bring Ben Spells to the wicket and played a gem of a knock, finishing on 43, P Hawk’s resistance came to an end on 38, with Conner Karvaski being the last wicket to fall for 4.  The Tons finishing on 215 all out off 48 overs. Disappointing to say the least after what we were on after 17 overs

The 2nd innings started with a real graft from S Hawk in his opening spell, deserving at least 2 wickets. The 2 spinners of Akshay Sreenivasan and Karvaski came on and tried to get a hold on the Alvechurch batsmen. Sreenivasan picked up 2 wickets before drinks, 1 thanks to a fantastic catch from the stand in skipper. A rare highlight in the game.

Drinks came and after being 70-0 off 12 to 110-2 off 25, a tightness was maybe coming back?

A dropped chance off a new batsmen went down and the heads started to drop, Alvechurch then saw the game home finishing 2 down, a lesson on how to bat by numbers 3 and 4 both finishing on 50 plus scores

Onto next week where we play Enville at home, a lot to learn from to get ourselves up the table again.
