Justin Gray reflects on Sunday's defeat vs Himley
With the vagaries of last week's selection, Roy Maidment and I stepped down for this game. Simon Flowers took on the captaincy. The players gathered in sunshine but the promised good weather soon turned into rain which saw the game interrupted twice.
Himley batted first and Fin Horton opened the bowling with an accurate spell which deserved wickets. He was unlucky that the only two dropped catches both went down off him. Fin himself then showed everyone else how it is done by taking a well-judged catch off Chris Chattaway to remove Himley's opening batsman. Chris bowled well along with Harry Lewis, Harry Shaw and Pete Dickenson. They were supported by some excellent fielding and restricted Himley to 153 for 7 off 34 overs.
Unfortunately, a disastrous beginning to our innings left us 29-5. Tom Maidment and Matt Evans then went about rebuilding. Tom's clean hitting was balanced by Matt's dogged determination. When they were out within a couple of overs, it fell to Harry Shaw to show some fight but it was not to be and we lost by 30 runs.
Himley CC - 153/7 (34 overs)
Belbroughton CC - 124 All Out (29.1 overs)
MVP - C Chattaway (49 points)
