3rd XI Match Report - 17/7/22

Conner Karvaski, stand in 3rd XI Captain, recounts the 3rd XI's visit to Old Hill on Sunday.

The 3rd team travelled to Old Hill, trying to avenge their defeat from a week before

Karvaski won the toss and elected to bat purely on the basis of the heat. The wickets of Dix, Evans and a run a ball 22 from Mackenzie fell, resulting in Price joining Stephens at the wicket

Price and Stephens planned to rebuild, from 28-3 turned to 109-4 with Stephens falling the ball before drinks for a well-made 26.

Price then carried on without playing risk free shots, Ward hitting a brisk 11 before getting bowled.

Karvaski joined Price at the wicket and the pair planned to bat the overs, Price had other ideas and got caught the next ball

Wickets tumbled and from 134-4 we stumbled to 161 all out, the team disappointed to not bat the overs.

With the weather starting to cool down, we began defending the total.

Chattaway and Ward started proceedings, bowling with control - Chattaway bowling out with excellent figures of 2-17 off 8

Harry Lewis then came on first change, bowling excellently not giving many bad balls away, once again he finished with fantastic figures of 1-13 from 8 overs.

The second drinks break passed and with Old Hill needing 110 off 20 overs, Chris Mackenzie bowled with some good pace and was unfortunate not to get a wicket - with the big left hander in, we knew he was key wicket to get.

He fell to Stephens who picked up 2 big wickets and kept us in the game, but not before the left hander had bludgeoned 33 off 18 balls including 2 big sixes.

Belbroughton took wickets late but it just wasn’t enough for us to keep Old Hill getting the total, losing by 2 wickets with 3.4 overs to go.

Everyone’s committment in the heat was fantastic and it was great to see the youth thrive again.

Onto next week where we can stabilise a 3rd place finish.

Belbroughton CC – 161 All Out (34.3 Overs)

Old Hill CC – 162/8 (36.2 Overs)

MVP – R Price (84 Points)
