3rd XI Match Report - 7/5/22

All the action from the 3rd XI game on Saturday!

The 3rd XI played against Pedmore with the opposition very much a club on the up having added a 4th team and having found a golden generation of youth players.

We gave league debuts to Rob Aldred, Theo Stevens and Joe Stephens The uncovered pitch had a nice green tinge after heavy showers on Friday evening and it was no surprise Pedmore put us in after skipper, Justin Gray, lost the important toss.

The pitch was two paced to begin with and the Pedmore bowlers bowled very straight and a good length. George Flowers was unlucky to go early. Rob Aldred hit the ball cleanly before being bowled during a very tight opening spell.

Neil Meredith played 2 sumptuous shots through the covers before also being bowled. Matt Evans become the third player in a row to be bowled by a good ball (from left arm Andrew Gauden seamer who was in Oldswinford’s first team not that long ago) as Pedmore reaped the reward for their accurate bowling. Gray was next out undone by a ball that bounced flicked his glove, hit the keeper’s shoulder and deflected to first slip.

Some excellent determined resistance from Theo Stevens, Joe Stephens, Simon Flowers, Steve Harvey, Harry Shaw and Finlay Horton took our score to 139 with the last wicket falling off the penultimate ball.

Our opening bowlers Fin Horton and Simon Flowers matched the accuracy of the Pedmore bowlers and kept the score to 44 off the first 15 overs backed up by some excellent fielding from Aldred, Stephens and Stevens. Theo himself came on to bowl and did well along with George Flowers (once it had been worked out which end to bowl him from). Their batsmen coped with the pressure and played without offering a chance seeing them to a 10 wicket victory.

It was a delightful effort from the debutants and the application of everyone ensures that we forward to next week at home to Himley.
