Sunday Slam Report - 3/7/22

Conner Karvaski provides his thoughts from the club's first attempt at playing the Sunday Slam!

The 100 Ball side arrived to Martley anticipating how our new competition would go and with everyone asking of rules, it was sure to be a confusing day.

I won the toss and on a short boundary I elected to field first, Akshay and Todd opening up from the same end, having 5 balls each! (This is weird to say)

The Bowling was then shared around and with some good control and taking wickets at regular points in the innings we restricted Martley to 131-8.

Top spells from Akshay, Cam Harvey and Todd, especially some very good death bowling from the youngsters restricting them, as at one stage they were getting away from us.

Some decent middle 5’s from Spells, producing a peach of a delivery for their number 4 batsmen was the highlight of the innings.

Price and Stanley then went to go chase 132 off 100 balls and started very positively, utilising the short boundary well.

Price then chopped on to his wickets for 30 with us needing 62 off 49 with 9 wickets in hand.

Charlie (32) and Spells fell soon after and us slowly going at it the rate soon crept, rob lee handed a valuable hand with 17 runs

With Belbroughton needing 16 off 10, it was down to Cameron Harvey and Adam Burrows, they both ran hard and tried to pierce the gaps, and it was then 8 needed off 5 balls

Adam for the team running a second run hard got run out bringing the Spaniel, Andy McKevitt, in with 7 needed off 4. Anything and everything was being run at, then 3 off 1 ball was required, with Akshay still reeling off a wide ball in the first innings, it was at this point everyone was with their hands in their heads. Cameron smoked one to mid off, it was fumbled and, as Cam has started his second run, Andy was halfway down the wicket coming back for two! A fumble from the bowler occurs and Andy made it, match tied!

After deliberating the rules with their skipper, it was deemed that Belbroughton had won on the basis that we had lost less wickets!

We are 1/1 in the group stage and with tough opponents Old Vigornians on 24th July, the road to finals day is wide open.

As a skipper it was great to see a team effort and the game played in the right spirits. Onto the next one.
