Sunday XI Match Report - 24/4/22

Sunday XI Captain, Conner Karvaski, offers his version of events from our friendly with Romsley.

The 2022 Sunday XI season kicked off with a game at home to Romsley. After developing the 1st XI Skipper’s symptoms of not being able to win a toss, Romsley elected to bowl first, much to a few people’s pleasure but not myself - the two opening batsmen not having arrived at this point.

While Ryan Price looked comfortable at the crease, a few wickets fell around him, finally bringing in the overseas who was due to open the batting but turned up late!

Ryan was unfortunate to get out but the main thing everyone was baffled by was not the dismissal, but it was his lying on the floor and the backwards roll with his helmet on across the wicket after getting out!

Akshay and Andy McKevitt then put on a big partnership after a few quick wickets and got us past drinks with 100 on the board.

Andy, myself and a few quick wickets then followed but Akshay stuck around until the end and hit his maiden Belbroughton 50 and steered us to 154 all out, ending on 57 not out, hopefully the first of many.

The ‘Tea’ break took place with some fantastic debates taking place and we went to defend the first total of the season and looked to secure our first win.

George Flowers and Fin Horton opened the bowling and they both bowled with fantastic control and very consistent lengths to leave Romsley 8-1 off 8 overs

The spin twins of Price and Tom Flowers came on, and if you asked which one was the first team spinner after 12 overs, everyone would have said young Tom, he bowled with brilliant flight and deceiving the batsmen fantastically. The only person not happy for this was Akshay as the ball would not stop following him!

Romsley’s Number 4 then started to motor quickly and after being 14-2 after 10 they moved to 93-7 after 20. Horton took a wicket the ball before drinks to give himself excellent figures of 6-4-8-2 for the day.

Harry Lewis, after having the destructive number 4 dropped first ball by Akshay, kept his head up and bowled three tight overs and the ball after drinks took a stunning looping catch that was in the sun to remove him! G Flowers getting the wicket he deserved
.

T Flowers and Lewis came back on to finish the game and take the last two wickets between themselves to bowl Romsley out for 97.

It was a game where everything was played in the right spirits and it was a brilliant performance from everyone, it was also great to see all the youth performing.

A great start to the season and it was wonderful to see so many people down to watch the game, a big thanks to Rob from Romsley for bringing a crowd over and getting a well contested game on.

Belbroughton CC - 154 All Out (32.1 overs)
Romsley CC - 97 All Out (22.5 overs)

Star Performances:
