What an excellent morning we had in the Malvern sunshine.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Isaac, in his role as captain for the first time, put in place his very first bowling order for the team. What an opening pair! James and Isaac taking 4 wickets between them in the first 6 overs. Followed up by Tommy Q taking another wicket in his first over. James finished with 4 wickets from his 4 overs, Isaac 1 and Tommy 1, but my stand-out performance from the first innings was Teddy, keeping wicket with confidence and bravery in equal measure.
We restricted Malvern to a miserly 41 runs off the bat from our 20 overs, but the one area we will need to work on is that we gave them 81 runs in wides and no balls. Something to get Will to focus on in training on Friday. Malvern finished with 121 from their innings, basically giving us a target to getting 1 run per bowl to chase this down. Our batting was very similar to Malvern, scoring 41 off the bat but they were a little bit more controlled with their bowling, winning the game by 23.
Our stand put performance with the bat was Isaac, who scored an excellent 21, the only player from either team to get into double figures. Considering this was the first game of cricket for some of any kind it augers well for the rest of the season ahead.
Well played everyone.
